Top Ten Tuesday for December 22: Books I Wouldn't Mind Receiving as Gifts

Actually, this week is for the Top Ten Books
I Wouldn't Mind Santa Leaving Under My Tree This Year!
However, I retitled it...since we do not even have a "tree" in our house! :)
(Remember those five felines with whom we share our house? Yeah...)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Although this is hosted weekly, I participate only when I have the time
and am extremely interested by the posting topic!

Actually, I'm hoping to arrive home tomorrow with my own

Little House boxed set to prepare for the Little House Read-Along

Bex of An Armchair by the Sea and I are hosting starting in January!
(No, I cannot believe that will be NEXT WEEK! Yikes!!)

#1 Absolute tops on my list is that Little House boxed set mentioned above!

#2 Pioneer Girl by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Pamela Smith Hill

#4 West From Home: Letters of Laura Ingalls Wilder, San Francisco, 1915 by Laura Ingalls Wilder, Roger Lea Macbride, Margot Patterson Doss

You will note a definite theme among these first five on my "wish list"!

2016 is going to be "Wilder" year for me...and others!
There are currently 6 people registered for this Read-Along, as well as Bex and myself!

I think you should be next! Check out the introductory post here to join!

This is a great opportunity to read a whole set of books that qualifies for The Classics Club! This is particularly pertinent for their Women's Classic Literature 2016 event!
In addition, I will count these toward my Historical Fiction reads!
And now, of course, they will also count toward #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks
(Though I admit it is probably "cheating" a bit on this last one since I am literally purchasing the books right before I read them...not as if they're some of the many many books already sitting in my house! But I'm giving myself permission...so that's okay, right?!? lol)
But I digress...

#6 Girl Waits With Gun by Amy Stewart
This looks fascinating!

#7 See Also Murder: A Marjorie Trumaine Mystery by Larry Sweazy
On of my favorite mystery writers just read this and recommends it!

How can this NOT be fascinating reading? And learning?
I contend we just do not give animals enough credit!

#9 The Sisters of Versailles by Sally Christie
Although not something I might otherwise be drawn to, this sounds like an amazing foray into historical fiction. I cannot imagine you and your sisters all being mistresses to the same king... While it may be too drama-driven for my personal taste, I am willing to give it a try and see!

Ever since reading The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony I am enthralled with elephants, especially, but also that we are finally beginning to realize that animals are not as "dumb" as we have always thought! (We humans are so very arrogant!! We think we are so superior!) Anthony's book is one of the best I've ever read. If you're at all interested in animals, you should read this one!

Hey, guess what?!? I actually kept a Top Ten posting to only TEN entries!
Well, okay, the first one is a boxed set so technically would count as 9 books,
but close enough! :)

I sense that I will be doing more nonfiction reading this next year, especially about animals!

How about you? What books would you like to receive as gifts this year?
What are you looking forward to reading?

  2. The Soul of An Octopus looks good to me, too! And I love the cover. Girl Waits with Gun is on my to-read list. I also love the covers of the Wilder books - those are definitely worth owning. :)
I hope you get them all. Happy Holidays!

    1. I wasn't lucky enough to find a set in brick and mortar stores the other day, so will order it. Cannot wait!!! I think the octopus book must be amazing. Somehow we neglect to think of "fish"/underwater animals as having personality, feelings, etc. Happy Holidays to you as well, Naomi! And thanks for stopping by!

    1. Are you planning to join us this next year? Or you could just follow reviews. I don't know how long it has been since you read them, but most of those who have registered are rereading the series. I think I'm one of the few yet to read them! Can't wait to check out your post! Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!

    1. Thanks, Sarah! Actually, I just ordered it online yesterday. (There were none of these in stock at any bookstores within a driveable distance.) That and Pioneer Girl! Can't wait to receive them next week! :)

  5. 'Girl Waits With Gun' was a book I really wanted to read last year, but never got around to - it's sounds so fantastic. The top half of your list makes me want to reread The Little House books - I haven't read them since I was in primary school! Hope you got some of these under your non-tree :-)
