20 Books of Summer (2016)

I have discovered another reading challenge for the summer!
Cathy of 746 Books has instituted this reading event/challenge!
Although you can list just 10 (as Karen at BookerTalk plans to do), or 15 books.
I will go for 20! (Perhaps a few too many, but we'll see!)
There is absolutely no qualifying criteria,
other than the fact that you want to read them!
This event extends from June 1 through September 5. :)
Here is my introductory posting!

Wrap-Up
As of Monday, September 5, I have read all but two:
Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson
and
The First Four Years by Laura Ingalls Wilder

I will first finish The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander for the Social Justice Book Club,
then the Wilder book for our Read-Along and then the Woodson book.
I have a few reviews to finish and post, but I am happy with what I completed.
If not for a totally unreasonable workload this summer, I would have finished them all!

(2) How To Be A Good Wife by Emma Chapman (July 26 2016)
Both #1 and #2 are for Literary Wives on June 6th and August 1st, respectively.

(3) The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder (June 19 2016)

Thank you, Penguin Random House! A kickass debut!

(12) Circling the Sun by Paula McLain (June 5 2016)

Need to have this read by Friday, June 4th since I'll get to meet her at a book signing
I was unable to attend the above-mentioned event! Maybe next time! :)
But I'm thrilled I read this book!

(13) Ramie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo (June 2 2016)

(14) Blackout by David Rosenfelt (June 1 2016)

(15) Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson

(18) At the Existentialist Café: Freedom, Being, and Apricot Cocktails by Sarah Bakewell
7-1-16 Update: Since I just committed to #EliotAlong reading
George Eliot's Middlemarch through July into early August,
I will have to put At the Existentialist Cafe on hold for now.
And I am substituting Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty (August 13 2016)
for Middlemarch. Too much work has kept me from reading that one right now. :(

(19) The Hemingway Book Club of Kosovo by Paula Huntley
(Read June 26 2016, blog post to come!)

(20) On the Far Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George (June 5 2016)

  1. Good luck, Lynn! I can still remember about sixty years ago, rushing through my school work to read a Laura Ingalls Wilder book. What fun.

    1. Oh, I only wish I had discovered them when I was young, but at least I will have read them now...and passed them along to my grandchildren!

  2. What a great goal! I love that that you have the Little House books on there. My second grade teacher had bought me the whole boxed set when I was little but I never read anything beyond the first book (!)...so I have been meaning to now as an adult.

    Good luck with your list!

    1. I had never read them at all. How I missed them as a child I will never know! They are easy reads, whenever you get to them! I particularly love the minutiae of everyday household tasks! Hope all is well at your house, Cecilia! Sending positive energy your way--always! :)

  4. Great list - lots of variety on there! Slaughterhouse Five and Breakfast at Tiffany's are both on my TBR but didn't make the cut for the 20 books. I'll be interested to hear what you think of them... and the others! Have a great summer of reading. :)

    1. I thought I had replied to your post, but evidently didn't! So...the Slaughterhouse Five review is to come. Definitely not one of my favorite reads and I'm fearful that Vonnegut's writing style is not for me. However, I am going to give him at least one more try with Breakfast of Champions, one of my friends recommended it as her favorite.
